Hi and Happy Friday! Would you like a protein ball? I don’t know about you but I’m ready for the weekend! Why are the weekends always so short? I am going to dinner with my two girlfriends tonight, one of which had a baby the same time as I did. It’s safe to say our kids are guaranteed friends. This is my first time actually leaving my daughter with my husband for a few hours to go out with my girlfriends.
This leads me to my recipe today. Since I am going out to dinner I will be pumping so my husband can feed our daughter. Once I decided to breastfeed I became obsessed with researching foods to increase my milk supply. Then I came across these lactation balls which are the same thing as protein balls which I have been making for myself for years now, especially when I work out.
These balls are so easy to make, and only have 5 ingredients and 1 bowl. Can it get any easier? For my protein/ lactation balls I use ground almonds, whole oats, mini chocolate chips, peanut butter and honey. As you can see they are loaded with protein from the almonds, rolled oats, and peanut butter. Not to mention the chocolate is filled with antioxidants, (which is exactly what I tell myself when I have a whole chocolate bar ). 😳
Oatmeal has been said to increase milk production in nursing moms. Although this is not a fact, many women including myself believe that oats do in fact work. Besides increasing your supply these balls are delicious, and can be stored in the fridge for weeks. When you are busy you can just grab one or five and eat it on the go, and get a high protein snack. I definitely have to make sure I am getting enough calories while nursing.
I recommend you try making these delicious treats. Whether you are making them for workouts, extra protein, an afternoon snack or milk supply, you will not be disappointed. You however might have trouble eating only one. Now have a great weekend!
